Originally founded in 1866 by Donald Mozart
and George Rice, the Hampden Watch Company has a long horological history. The company primarily manufactured size 16 and
18 pocket watches in varying qualities.
The
Hampden Watch Company was bought by the infamous Watch Case Maker, John C. Dueber, in 1888 moving operations to Canton, Ohio.
Duebers company was a very large producer of Solid Gold, Gold Filled and Coin Silver watch cases of the era.
The company supplied Elgin, Illinois, and Waltham, among others, with cases for
their watch movements. By 1889 the company
had two names: Hampden Watch Company, Canton OH for its watches and dials and Dueber Watch Company, Canton, OH for the
cases it manufactured. In 1923 the company changed its name to Dueber-Hampden Watch Company.
